Dromineer

Each port around Lough Derg has its own charm, and Dromineer is no exception. Once called the “Port of Ormond,” this postcard-perfect village is a true gem, offering delights for every visitor.

Take a break from life’s stresses in the picturesque village of Dromineer, just a stone’s throw from where the Lough Derg meets the Nenagh River. Popular with those looking to enjoy water sports on the Lough, which offers canoeing, kayaking, stand-up paddle, sailing, cruising and power sports, Dromineer is also favoured by boaters, who can moor in the public marina. Boat tours are available at Dromineer Harbour, and Lough Derg Yacht Club is mere moments from the village.

Fishing is another popular activity, while walkers can enjoy a variety of linear routes across Lough Derg Way and East Clare Way, and looped walks around the lakelands of Lough Derg. Facilities inside the village include a playground, cafe, public toilets, a pub with a restaurant and a variety of accommodation, including B&Bs and self-catering cottages.

Lough Derg Yacht Club

Lough Derg Yacht Club (LDYC) was formed in 1835, making it one of the oldest in this country. The first Annual Regatta was held the following year, and we have regatta programmes of most regattas held since then. The Club was based in Dromineer Bay, and for many years racing was conducted from Kilteelah Quay. There were no racing dinghies as we know them at that time, and all the vessels involved were fairly substantial yachts belonging to many of the landowners around Lough Derg. All communications were by flags, and competition was keen.
